(L.A.) Anthony Smithers, 15, Died on a Sidewalk

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 15-year-old Black male that occurred on a sidewalk.

The coroner’s office identified the teen as Anthony Smithers.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Multiple Gunshot Wounds

Formal pronouncement of death was made early Sunday morning.

The shooting happened right after midnight on West 97th Street in the area of Vermont Vista / Westmont.

A 15-year-old teenage boy was shot to death in the South Los Angeles neighborhood of Vermont-Vista.

Officers were dispatched at 12:43 a.m. Sunday to a reported shooting in the 800 block of West 97th Street.

Arriving paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
