Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Blunt-Force Trauma

RIP INGRID ZAPATA (June 20, 1968 – August 11, 2025)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Monday.

The decedent was fatally injured on the Pomona (60) Freeway when a tire came off of a truck and smashed through the windshield of the car she was driving.

California Highway Patrol was informed of the accident at around 2:26 a.m. Officers responded to the eastbound Pomona Freeway at the Garey Avenue off-ramp.

Video showed the smashed window and partial roof collapse of the white Lexus sedan the woman was driving.

The 1995 GMC pickup truck was westbound when it lost its tire, which then crossed over to eastbound lanes and hit the car. The sudden impact on the windshield caused Zapata to lose control of her sedan as she veered across freeway lanes before crashing into a metal guardrail near the Garey Avenue off-ramp.
