(L.A.) Baby Girl Piniaz Died in a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a Hispanic female that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office identified the infant girl as Baby Girl Piniaz.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death A: Intrauterine Fetal Demise

Cause of Death B: Acute Chorioamnionitis and Funisitis

Other Significant Condition: Maternal Cocaine Use

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Tuesday.

Intrauterine fetal demise is the medical term for a stillbirth.

Funisitis is inflammation of the connective tissue of the umbilical cord that occurs with chorioamnionitis.

The child’s mother was abusing cocaine while pregnant. This is considered an accidental, i.e., unintentional, drug overdose.
