(L.A.) Sophia Hutchins, 29, Died off a Cliff

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 29-year-old White/Caucasian individual that occurred off a cliff.

The coroner’s office has identified the person as Sophia Hutchins and listed the gender as female.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Multiple Blunt-Force Injuries

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Wednesday.

The decedent was born a boy in Washington state and given the name Scott Hutchins by his parents. It received surgery in 2016 to become the first transgender person to graduate from Pepperdine University in Malibu. As a transgender woman, it was known primarily for being a friend of Caitlyn Jenner; they had met in 2015.

Hutchins was driving a blue 2013 Polaris-manufactured ATV on Decker Canyon Road when it hit the rear of a moving vehicle. The impact caused the ATV to leave the road and fall approximately 350 feet into a ravine.
