(L.A.) Abel Concho, 57, Died in a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 57-year-old Latino male that occurred in a hospital.
The coroner’s office identified the man as Abel Concho.

On August 15, 2022, a former BOP Correctional Officer previously assigned to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles, California, was sentenced to a total of six months of imprisonment, consisting of three months in Federal prison and three months of home confinement, and ordered to pay $9,500 in restitution to a victim, after pleading guilty to one count of making false statements.
Abel Concho was sentenced in the Central District of California. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, on July 28, 2021, during an interview with federal investigators of the DOJ OIG and the FBI, Concho falsely stated that he “never” had sexual contact with the victim, who was a BOP inmate, or any other inmate when he knew that he had sexual contact with the victim approximately 35 separate times. After initially denying he had any sexual contact with the inmate victim, Concho stated that he had sexual intercourse with the inmate victim once or twice, when in fact, Concho had sexual intercourse with the inmate victim on approximately nine separate occasions. Also, according to the factual statement, Concho falsely stated that he had oral sex with the victim only two or three times, when in fact, Concho had oral sex with the victim on approximately 28 separate occasions. Concho further falsely stated that he did not provide a cell phone to the inmate victim.
As part of his plea agreement, Concho also agreed not to seek employment in any law enforcement capacity or a position that requires carrying a firearm.
In just over three years ending August 2022, at least 49 employees of the federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) were convicted of crimes, ranging from pilfering government property to sexually abusing prisoners.
Abel Concho, 54, a former guard at MDC-Los Angeles, was sentenced to three months in prison and three months on house arrest after pleading guilty to lying to investigators about sexually abusing a detainee. [See: PLN, Oct. 2022, p.64.] He at first said he never had sex with the woman. Then he decided they had intercourse nine times. In fact, the true number was 35. They had oral sex 28 times, too, though he swore it happened only two or three times. He also lied about phoning the victim after her release. He was ordered to pay $9,500 in restitution and barred from future law enforcement employment or any position requiring use of a firearm. He will remain on supervised release for two years.
