(L.A.) Joseph Scafidi III, 38, Died From Fentanyl

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 38-year-old White/Caucasian male that occurred at his residence.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Joseph Scafidi III.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Fentanyl Effects

Other Significant Condition: Morbid Obesity

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Thursday at 9:06 a.m.

Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published on October 4, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back positive for the drug. This is considered an accidental overdose.

The government investigator had initially given the decedent’s full name as Joseph Scafidi II before later changing the numeral suffix to III.

California has a birth record for a Joseph Domonic [sic] Scafidi who was born on June 27, 1986, in Orange County, California. His mother’s maiden name is Crist.
