(L.A.) Briana Soto, 17, Died in a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 17-year-old Hispanic female that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office identified the teenage girl as Briana Soto.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Gunshot Wound of Head

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Friday at 3:22 p.m.

The shooting happened Tuesday night at around 8:30 p.m. near 11th Street and Lewis Avenue. She was in the hospital for a few days before succumbing to her injury.

A senior student at Long Beach Polytechnic, the victim was walking home from her job at a McDonald’s a mile from her apartment when she was shot.

In July 2025, a man named Troy Lamar Fox, age 34, was sentenced to 358 years to life in prison for the first-degree murder, among other crimes.

Authorities stated there was no known relationship or apparent interaction between Fox and Soto before the attack, and no motive was presented at trial. The conviction relied on DNA evidence, eyewitness identification, and surveillance footage.
