(L.A.) Samuel Kelly, 24, Died on a Sidewalk 🧁

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 24-year-old White/Caucasian male that occurred on a sidewalk.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Samuel Kelly.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death A: Pulmonary Thromboembolism

Cause of Death B: Deep Vein Thrombosis of Lower Extremities

Other Significant Condition: Blunt Force Knee Injury

RIP SAMUEL KELLY (July 18, 1999 – July 30, 2023)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Sunday at 4:58 a.m.

Ruling by the medical examiner that this was a natural death from an embolism was published early in the day on August 4. By evening, the DME had withdrawn their initial conclusion. The DME posted their final determination on August 8.

To recap, the change in the manner of death was from Natural (pulmonary embolism) to Accident (knee injury, which precipitated the thrombosis and embolism).

The coroner-investigator assigned to this case was Marleen Navarro, and the deputy medical examiner Dr. Emily Lo. This may have been the first case that Doctor Lo ever handled as a county pathologist. She appears to be only 31 years old.
