UB40 vocalist Matt Hoy forced to quit band over Covid vaccine concerns

Matt Hoy, vocalist for UB40 featuring Ali Campbell and Astro, claims to have been forced out of the band due to his reluctance to take the Covid-19 vaccine.

The singer has long performed with the splinter group, which formed when Ali and Astro quit UB40 back in 2008 and 2013, respectively, to form the new band.

According to the singer, however, he is no longer involved in the project, as a medical condition has forced him from being vaccinated against Covid-19.

“Back in early May it was made clear to me by UB40 management and artist, that unless I received the covid vaccine, I would no longer be permitted to be apart of the band,” he shared in a social media statement.

“Unfortunately I have an underlying medical condition, which leaves me unable to receive the jab.”

Matt continued: “I have had an amazing 10 years with the band, but unfortunately it can be no more.

“Thank you all for your endless support, love and encouragement.

“Here’s to the future…”.
