Tehama County Shooting: 6 Dead (NorCal)

Six people were killed in a shooting Tuesday morning that started at a home and moved to an elementary school in Tehama County in Northern California. The shooter was also killed by law enforcement, the sheriff’s department said.

Multiple shots were fired about 8 a.m. at Rancho Tehama School on the outskirts of Corning, Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston said.

Tehama County (/təˈheɪmə/ tə-HAY-mə) is located in Northern California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 63,463.

A man interviews by Action News Now said that his truck was stolen and his roommate was shot and killed by the gunman.

“He’s dead. He didn’t make it,” the witness said.

The roommates lived near the gunman, and the surviving witness said that their neighbor had been shooting a lot of rounds recently.

“The crazy thing is that the neighbor has been shooting a lot of bullets lately, hundreds of rounds, large magazines,” he said. “This guy has been crazy, and he’s been threatening us and everything. I just feel like there maybe should have been more effort put into stopping things like this.”

Update: The gunman has been identified as Kevin Janson Neal, a 43-year-old white male who already has a criminal rap sheet.

Today, he killed four people. He himself was shot dead by authorities.

The cause of the shooting appears to be a dispute with a neighbor.
