McConchie Hosting Essay Contest for Students to Tell of Inspiring Teachers

Illinois state senator Dan McConchie has launched an essay competition for middle and high school students to honor their most appreciated teacher.

The contest is open to students in his 26th District, which includes Barrington and Lake Zurich school districts, as well as Adlai Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire.

“Teachers serve as role models, mentors, counselors, and friends. They inspire our students and make a positive difference in their lives,” said McConchie.

According to the press release, the Senate Republican Leader is seeking students in grades 6-12 to write and submit an essay of 250-500 words about one teacher who has been an inspiration to them “in a meaningful way.”

The deadline for submitting entries is April 20.

Teacher Appreciation Week runs May 2 to May 6.

Winners will be selected from high school grades 9-12 and middle school grades 6-8. Winning essays will be posted on the state senator’s website, and excerpts may eventually be displayed in the state Capitol building.

A grand prize winner will be chosen and awarded a $500 Amazon gift card to be used for “educational supplies.”

Moreover, all participating students and the teachers they write about will be invited to McConchie’s district office, located in Lake Zurich, on May 3 for an awards ceremony and evening reception.

“There’s no doubt that our educators have had a challenging few years. This is just a simple way we can acknowledge their hard work and efforts on behalf of their students,” McConchie said.
