Nearly twenty years after their first engagement, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are engaged again.

News of this engagement was announced via On the JLo — Lopez’s newsletter made available via subscription for her fans. She teased the announcement via Facebook and Twitter.

The actual message featured a video of light music with closeups of the ring with a small voiceover of Lopez saying, “you’re perfect.”

When Jennifer Lopez and Maluma released a music video for the ballad version of their song “Marry Me” on March 11, it featured an unexpected costar: Affleck!

Affleck and Lopez first dated from 2002 to 2004. After meeting on the set of Gigli in late 2001, they began a romantic relationship in July 2002 when Lopez filed for divorce from her second husband, Cris Judd.

Their relationship was extensively publicized, with tabloids referring to the couple as “Bennifer” — the first celebrity portmanteau of its kind.

The pair appeared together in the music video for her song “Jenny from the Block” and the film Jersey Girl (2004).

They became engaged in November 2002 but their planned wedding on September 14, 2003, was postponed with four days’ notice because of “excessive media attention.” They called off the engagement in January 2004.
