Transverse myelitis is a rare condition that by itself does not result in death. It is an inflammatory condition of the spinal cord that often often makes walking difficult, if not impossible.

Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison had been diagnosed years ago with transverse myelitis and seemed to be handling it well. He was found dead last year at the age of 46. He appeared to have died in his sleep.
