Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 40-year-old male of “American Indian” ethnicity that occurred at a residence.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Deepen Patel.

RIP DEEPEN PATEL (November 10, 1981 – May 8, 2022)

MEC records list the decedent as “American Indian” which native speakers of English understand to be Native American. The surname Patel, however, is widely known as an “Asian Indian” surname. Furthermore, Deepen is a Hindu name.

The coroner investigator in charge of this case was Jerry C. Mckibben, the deputy medical examiner Dr. Robyn Parks.
