BSV’s Craig Wright (Faketoshi) Sends Demand Letters To Twitter Users

With apparently the full support of CoinGeek.com founder Calvin Ayre, notorious cryptocurrency figure Craig Wright has begun sending demand letters to Twitter users who have posted claims that Wright is a fraud.

Cryptocurrency blogger Peter McCormack (@PeterMcCormack) today tweeted pages he received that purport to be from lawyers representing Craig Wright. The letter accuses McCormack of engaging in “harassment and libel” in connection with his tweets declaring Craig Wright a “fraud” and not Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin.

So I got my letter from Craig Wright and @CalvinAyre. This is what they are sending out to people, now you can all see.

I absolutely reject their requirements.

(PS I don’t recommend anyone else does this).

The brouhaha is a result of Craig Wright becoming more stubborn in recent months on his insistence that he is Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of the original bitcoin. For years the cryptocurrency community in general has rejected his claims as fraudulent, rallying on Twitter around the hashtag #CraigWrightisaFraud. In response, Wright and Ayre have threatened to file lawsuits against accounts who have posted such claims.

The first user to have been widely reported as a target was Lightning Torch founder @Hodlonaut, who was advised by his own legal counsel to simply delete the tweets in question, as well as his account. Among the demands in the correspondence @Hodlonaut received, however, was the stipulation that he frame his apology as follows:

I was wrong to allege Craig Wright fraudulently claimed to be Satoshi. I accept he is Satoshi. I am sorry Dr. Wright. I will not repeat this libel.

Moreover, Wright and Ayre have offered a $5,000 bounty for any information as to the true identity of @Hodlanaut. Such a threat is a no-go among cryptocurrency enthusiasts, among whom anonymity and pseudonymity are sacred values.

The aggressive course of action taken by Wright and Ayre has so irked the community that prominent figures have come out to seriously suggest that BSV (the fork created by Wright and Ayre) be delisted from major exchanges. In particular, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao has tweeted:

Craig Wright is not Satoshi.

Anymore of this sh!t, we delist!

CZ, as he is fondly known, later added:

I normally don’t like get involved in debates, pick sides, etc. But this is going too far.

I also didn’t like the fact that the fork caused BTC to drop below $6k, which caused pain to many in the industry.

The BTC community has created the following site to raise funds to help Hodlonaut’s legal defense.

Additional fundraising projects are expected for the other targets of Wright and Ayre.
