Binance: USD $25,0000 Bounty Towards Arrest of Hackers
Cryptocurrency exchange BINANCE is offering a $250,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of hackers who attempted to siphon off money earlier this month.
Background on the Failed Hack
On the 7th of March, thirty-one Binance accounts suddenly began using their Bitcoin to purchase Viacoin, a relatively low-value cryptocurrency. As a result of the buying, the price of Viacoin rose dramatically. The accounts — later identified as hacked via phishing — then attempted to sell, but were fortunately stopped by an automatic block mechanism in the Binance system.
The crooks may not have been able to get away with the money, but the effect on the cryptocurrency market on that day was significant. Every day, Binance handles over 2 trillion USD in trades, and the suspicious purchases flagged and announced by some of the affected customers on social media had the community frantically trying to figure out how big the assumed hack was.
The exchange says that the reward will be given to the first person to supply information leading to the arrest of the hackers, but the reward could be split at its discretion if more than one source of information is used. The reward will be paid in Binance Coin, the exchange’s native token.
The announcement was also provided in translations into Korean, Arabic, Vietnamese and other languages.
