Arpad A. Sooky, a graduate of USC’s Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry, has been identified as the man who shot himself inside a police vehicle on Friday, Aug. 12.

Police had gone to the 43-year-old’s home based on a search warrant for a cache of illegal guns. Among the items seized were assault rifles and 3D printing materials suspected to be used in the production of ghost guns.

After that initial warrant was served, Sooky was taken into custody, then reportedly shot himself with his own gun.

The former dentist with the U.S. Army had quit his popular local practice around 2018 and had gone through a divorce. He had his parents living with him in Center Township, Beaver County, in Pennsylvania.

Sooky had attended Woodland Hills High School and Taylor Allderdice High School in Pennsylvania. His undergraduate degree was from the University of Pittsburgh. He graduated from USC in 2004.

The Hungarian-American claimed in 2018 that he had lost “almost every penny” to an internet scam. He had been dabbling in Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin.
